Palauea Morning, 1992
I was commissioned to paint Palauea beach back when it was one of the only remaining undeveloped beaches on Maui. It had a serene quality to it like no other. The entire length of the beach was lined by a thicket of thorny kiawe trees, which tended to keep intruders at bay. In the ensuing years, the waterfront property changed hands and transformed into multiple residences all the way down the beach. All that remains is a wistful memory and a painting to attest to the way it used to be.
