Mirror of Gold, 2000
Every evening in the field next door to my studio, there is a silhouetted eucalyptus standing alone in the twilight. Over the years I've walked by literally thousands of times and watched how the mist clings to the grassy tufts around it, sparkling in the descending sunlight. Some nights there is a fog, glowing with the setting rays of sun, and the ocean turns gold. If anyone had told me when I first started out that one day I would attempt to paint such things, I wouldn't have believed them. I would have thought that such things were too intangible.
