Keokea Picnic

Aloha %Client_Name%,

Greetings from Maui!

Remarkably, this pasture is the first place my wife and I set foot on Maui in 1973, the day we arrived from Honolulu. I walked out on the hill and knew instinctively I had to live here and paint this area. Jill & I are about to celebrate 40 years here now. I remember pivotal moments like this because they carry so much momentum and set events into motion. I was only 20 then and hungry to start a career as an artist in the footsteps of my father. He'd been successful in the Pacific Northwest and I was looking for subject matter I could call my own. I knew I'd found it that day in Keokea. Jill and I had a picnic in this pasture and the rest is history.

I'm close to releasing my latest original oil painting Keokea Picnic (shown below), the progress of which is documented on my blog. I painted it in honor of our 40th wedding anniversary, which coincides with my 40th year of painting on Maui.

Me ke aloha pumehana (with the warmest aloha),

— Curtis Wilson Cost

The Nov 24, 2013 Maui News article, Artist celebrates 40 years painting Maui landscapes, aptly refers to Curtis Wilson Cost as "the quintessential Maui landscape artist." One old local man had tears in his eyes when he said, "You're keeping my childhood alive." Truly, Curtis' work captures Maui's past and preserves it like a cherished memory. It resonates with secret places in the heart.

We warmly invite you to visit the Cost Gallery website to view more of my paintings as well as new originals by my daughter, Julia Allisson Cost, and my son Elliott Wilson Cost. I remain, as ever, a proud father. — CWC
